The world can be a tough place. When the news and social media is filled with bombings and civilians being trapped between two warring factions, it can feel like the games of a transportation app in Gothenburg are small, even trivial, when lives are stake elsewhere.
And no, using SMART does not help save the children in Aleppo. If Team SMART had that answer, we would be there.
The #SMARTmakesgood Charity Challenge is partnering with four organizations that do good work here, in Gothenburg. The suffering here may not be as desperately acute as daily bombings, but we all have burdens in our lives. Ung Cancer helps teenagers find the strength and normalcy their illnesses try to take away. Göteborg Stadsmission helps the homeless or the recovering find their way again, taking in people who have suffered abuse and give them shelter and resources. Ronald McDonald Huset Göteborg creates a safe atmosphere and supportive network for families watching their children deal with severe illness and pain. Myrorna supports the environment by diverting used goods from landfills and reselling them, with the proceeds supporting the Salvation Army and the charitable work they do. Whichever charity team you chose, your trips helped them earn money to keep doing their good work, and in this way, Team SMART is glad SMART has helped Gothenburg.
